Local Support Groups

Do you believe that the Lord works through Small Missional Communities? Do you support the vision and have some awareness of the local contexts they are based in? Would you like to offer them prayer, practical, spiritual or organisational help?

Then why not consider offering yourself on a Local Support Group?

As an LSG member, you’ll join us for group meetings 3 or 4 times a year with the Small Missional Communities members, and be invited to occasional other events. Beyond that, the level of commitment is largely up to you. Here are some of the responsibilities you might take on:

Mission

  • to facilitate contacts and links which might inform, resource or support the Small Missional Communities in mission
  • to encourage the Small Missional Communities to review, refine and live out its missional vision and intent
  • to gently hold the Small Missional Communities to account for its involvement in the wider community and engagement in mission
  • to join in mission with the Small Missional Communities where possible

Prayer

  • to pray for the Small Missional Communities and its members
  • to pray with the Small Missional Communities when possible.

Community

  • to support, with the chair, the Small Missional Communities leader in her / his role as leader.
  • to be part, with the chair and when invited, of an interview panel for any new Small Missional Communities members.
  • to gently, with the chair, hold the Small Missional Communities to account for their community life
  • to be able to ask “awkward” questions of Small Missional Communities members (e.g. what risks are you taking).
  • to ensure the Small Missional Communities members are involved in some sort of partnership with local church.

Practical help

With other members of the Local Support Group and the chair:

  • to ensure that the community property is well maintained and cared for.
  • to help ensure that there are adequate funds for the Small Missional Communities to be self-financing.

Wider Movement

  • to be aware of the vision of the Lee Abbey Movement and pray for it.

Think this might be for you?

We’d love to talk to you!
